How to get Motivated to Workout

For exercise to be effective, you need to do it regularly and consistently. The occasional workout won’t help you build muscle, lose fat, or get fit. The benefits of working out are cumulative. That means it’s important that you find ways to stick to your workout program. Here are some ways to build your gym motivation.

1. Set goals

Goals give your workouts focus. They make sure that you know what you are exercising for. Whatever you want to get from your workouts, make sure you set goals to work toward. This could be the weight or body fat percentage you want to reach, a certain amount of weight you want to be able to lift, or even a local sports event – like a 5k or a mini-triathlon.

Put your goal on your calendar to remind yourself what you are working toward and that skipping workouts will mean you are less likely to reach your goal.

2. Do things you enjoy

Your workout motivation will be stronger if you enjoy what you do. There are lots of great workouts out there, from CrossFit to powerlifting, and from running to Body Combat. There is no real reason to do something you don’t enjoy.

If you dread your next workout, maybe because you find it boring or painful, you are much less likely to do it. But, if you love what you do, gym motivation should come naturally

3. Work out with a friend

Working out with a friend is a great way to boost your motivation for exercise. Simply agreeing to meet up at the gym at a specific time increases the chances you will both show up. Once you are there, you can spot and push each other to work harder than you would alone. Your workouts will be more productive, and you’ll get better results this way.

4. Hire a trainer

It’s very easy to get stuck in a workout rut, especially if you don’t have the knowledge to create interesting, fun, and productive workouts. If your exercise motivation is dropping, consider hiring a personal trainer. These fitness professionals are experts in both workout design and motivation. Use one any time you feel you need to breathe some new life into your workout plan

5. Boost gym motivation with rewards

A great way to increase workout motivation is to reward yourself for a job well done. For example, if you have been working out hard and consistently for a month, treat yourself to a massage to ease those aches and pains. Other appropriate rewards include new workout clothes, a new set of Bear Grips knee sleeves, or a meal out with your partner or friends. Make sure you EARN your reward – if you’ve not done the work, you don’t deserve it!
